The National Science Foundation, Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Directorate is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Marta Alfonso-Durruty as a rotator Program Director for Biological Anthropology. Dr. Alfonso-Durruty received her PhD at the State University of New York, Binghamton, in 2008. Following her PhD, she served as visiting faculty at the College of William and Mary and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Alfonso-Durruty is an Associate Professor at Kansas State University, where in addition to teaching and research she has worked intensively on diversity and inclusion and the development of undergraduate research, careers and organizations. Dr. Alfonso-Durruty is also affiliated with the Cape Horn International Research Center in Chile. Her research interests include bioarcheology, human growth and development, foodways in the Andean past, human adaptation, and the peopling of South America. Dr. Ferrell welcomes Dr. Alfonso-Durruty and thanks Dr. Robin Bernstein for her substantial contributions to the program over the past two years.
