The Department of Anthropology at the State University of New York at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Biological Anthropology (Paleoanthropology) beginning Fall 2024. We are looking for someone to join a collegial department of faculty actively engaged in collaborative research, particularly holistic research across the subfields. Our department is focused on our students' passion for Anthropology, giving them opportunities outside the classroom such as study abroad, field experiences, museum curation, educational exhibits, research assistantships and independent studies. On any given day, an Anthropology professor will spend time:

Teaching courses in paleoanthropology and another area of specialization Teaching introduction to biological anthropology and other courses to meet department needs Involving students in research Advising and mentoring students Contributing to gallery exhibits and programs Actively participating in departmental and university life.

Requirements: Required Qualifications:

PhD in anthropology (ABD considered; official confirmation of degree conferral by issuing institution by start of employment) with primary subfield in biological anthropology. Evidence of the potential to teach courses listed in opportunities above. Ability to initiate a suitable and productive research program.

Preferred:

Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness. Experience teaching courses listed in duties and other courses in anthropology. Evidence of the capability to provide effective advisement and mentoring to students. Experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or service with diverse and/or multicultural populations.

Additional:

Demonstrated experience involving students in research. Experience with curating exhibits and/or science communication.
