The School of Social Science and Global Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in anthropology to begin in August of 2021. The position is open to all specialties in biocultural anthropology, but priority will be given to those who complement/augment existing faculty specialties.

Those with a research focus in medical anthropology, growth and development, and/or nutritional anthropology are especially encouraged to apply. The ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines, including the dual master’s degree program with Public Health, is also desirable.

The successful candidate will assume a 3/3 teaching load that may include the following classes: four-field introduction to anthropology, introduction to archaeology and biological anthropology, medical anthropology, as well as electives in the applicant’s particular area of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications: - Ph.D. in anthropology by time of appointment

Preferred Qualifications: - Evidence of effective teaching that seeks to engage a diverse student body - An established publication record - An active research agenda that fosters mentorship with and fieldwork opportunities for graduate and advanced undergraduate students
