The Department of Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame seeks a medical anthropologist to join our collegial, dynamic, integrative four-field department. This tenure-track position is at the assistant professor level, and begins in August 2021. We seek a scholar-teacher whose research broadly engages with cultural and biocultural issues associated with human health. Of particular interest are scholars who research topics that may include (in no specific order): environmental and climate effects on health; reciprocal multi-species relationships; political ecology of health, disease, and/or nutrition; perceptions of risk, vulnerability, and responsibility for illness and health care; embodiment of lived experience related to health and well-being; or analysis of health and the environment within a Science and Technology Studies (STS) framework. Geographic focus is open, as are specific intellectual foci ranging from global to local contexts. Candidates should consider how their work complements and enhances the current strengths of the department. Ideal candidates will conduct research that facilitates integrative connections across anthropology’s subfields and contributes to the growth of our Ph.D. program. Those candidates who can engage with and involve undergraduates in research will be particularly appealing. Excellent teaching skills, an ongoing, established ethnographic research program, and demonstrated evidence of scholarly promise are required. Ph.D. must be in hand by August 2021, but is strongly encouraged by time of application.

Qualifications: Must have PhD in hand by August, 2021

Application Instructions: Candidates must provide a cover letter, a research statement, a teaching statement, a CV, and names and contact information for three potential referees.

Deadline: October 15, 2020
