Research Assistant [Junior / Assistant Specialist] –Human Evolution Research Center

Description The Human Evolution Research Center at the University of California Berkeley serves as the nexus of interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding basic human biology, variation, and the evolutionary history that shaped it. We are seeking applications for a Research Assistant [at the Junior or Assistant Specialist rank]. The position is full-time with an anticipated start date of March 2020.

Responsibilities The successful candidate will assist the Associate Director of HERC with several on-going projects. These projects include a study of mammary gland physiology, primate phylogenetics using fossils, and drafting a book on human biological variation. We seek candidates with demonstrated skills in library research, organization, and strong attention to detail. The ideal candidate will be open to learning new research techniques and providing logistical support for highly interdisciplinary research into human evolutionary biology.

Bachelor’s degree or higher is required by date of hire.

This Research Assistant will work under the guidance and supervision of Professor Leslea Hlusko, the Associate Director of the Human Evolution Research Center. This position will be based within the laboratory of Professor Leslea Hlusko on the Berkeley campus.

Basic/Minimum Qualifications [required at time of application]

Bachelor's degree [or equivalent international degree] in human biology and/or biological anthropology or a related discipline Demonstrated ability to work in a research environment Strong verbal communication skills and an ability to communicate with people of different backgrounds Experience working collaboratively Experience working with and handling live, captive animals Appointment The position reports to Professor Leslea Hlusko. The position will be full-time for two years, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
