Hello Everyone! The AAPAs are just around the corner and it is time to start planning to join the Physical Anthropology Women's Mentoring Network (PA WMN) for our annual events in Calgary! We are hosting a Happy Hour and Luncheon, and all the details are below.

PA WMN Happy Hour!

When? Thursday (April 10th) from 5:00 – 6:30 pm. Many of us will be staying past the listed end time, so please come by even if you can't be there at 5!

Where? Calgary Telus Convention Centre Glen 206

Who? All women, including current PA WMN members and not-yet PA WMN members, are welcome to come, mingle, meet new women in our field, chat and just enjoy yourselves! A cash bar will be set up and we will offer free appetizers. Hope to see you there!

PA WMN Luncheon!

We have a limited number of spots available so if you are interested, please sign up ASAP. All the details are below.

When? Thursday (April 10th) from 12:00-1:00 pm. For those who can stay past 1pm, we will continue our discussions longer!

Where? Calgary Telus Convention Centre Glen 205

Who? As this event is intended for women transitioning into their careers, we ask that women ABD and above (i.e. Postdoc & Assistant Professor) attend. If you are not yet at this stage (or if you have attended two or more luncheons in the past) please join us at our Happy Hour instead!

What is it? The Luncheon aims to provide junior women the opportunity to informally meet more senior women in our field, ask questions, and get advice about key stages in our careers and issues that are facing women in biological anthropology.

This year, and in honor of PA WMN’s 5th anniversary (!) our Luncheon will focus on the topic of Mentoring: essentially, how to effectively mentor and be mentored. This year’s panel format will give senior women in our field the opportunity to respond to a set of prepared questions and field questions from participants. The aim is to tease out wisdom and advice about the ins-and-outs of mentoring in a casual, “safe” environment.
