We are now accepting applicants to the Samshvilde Summer School in Archaeology and Bioarchaeology for the summer season of 2019! Be a part of our NEW and exciting expedition in beautiful Georgia!

Samshvilde Summer School is an intensive three-week course in basic archaeological and bioarchaeological practice. Trainees will have the unique opportunity to excavate Samshvilde's royal medieval citadel (11th-13th cent. AD) and Sioni cemetery. In this course, trainees will learn a variety of methodological skills and gain hands-on experience necessary for becoming a professional archaeologist.

Training includes: - Field work - Post-excavation finds processing - Seminars on archaeology and Georgian culture

At the end of this course trainees will have experience in: - Archaeological and grave context excavation - Documentation and archiving - Artefact conservation - Scientific photography - Technical drawing - Basic osteology

Program dates July 15th to August 6th, 2019

Prerequisites Because this is course aimed at beginners (undergraduate students, interested laypersons), applicants are NOT required to have previous experience in archaeology or bioarchaeology. You must be fit to do physical labor, be proficient in English, and have an interest in archaeology. *We are especially interested in applicants with a background in zooarchaeology or human osteology for a personal project. If you are interested in this please specify on your application form.*

Program fee 4,750 GEL (2,330 CAD or 1800 USD) This fee includes transport between Tbilisi airport and the dig house, meals and accommodation, 2 day trips (locations to be determined), teaching materials and field equipment, seminars, 2 nights of lodging in Tbilisi and a certification (upon completion of the program) It does NOT include airfare or insurance
