Santa Clara University full-time academic year adjunct lecturer

The Department of Anthropology at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, seeks a full-time academic year adjunct lecturer (fixed-term, non-tenure track), for a one-year term beginning in Fall 2014. The selected candidate will be required to teach the equivalent of seven quarter-long courses over the three quarters (fall, winter, spring) during the academic year. The normal course load will be two to three courses per quarter. Courses will include Introduction to Biological Anthropology, Introduction to Archaeology, and Vanished Peoples and Lost Civilizations.

Faculty responsibilities include (1) teaching and (2) service, as specified by the Santa Clara University Faculty Handbook (sec. 3.6). Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Planning and teaching lectures selected from ANTH 1: Introduction to Biological Anthropology with lab (Fall and Spring), ANTH 2: Introduction to Archaeology with lab (Fall and Winter), and ANTH 4: Vanished Peoples and Lost Civilizations (Spring).
2. Fulfilling all responsibilities associated with assigned courses, including
a. Conducting all assigned class meetings and individual conferences with students;
b. Assigning and evaluating written work that aligns the course description and with course learning outcomes;
c. Holding weekly office hours on campus;
d. Submitting student grades to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline;
e. Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses;
f. Fulfilling other instructional or academic duties as may be assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or the Chair of the Department.
