Archaeological Techniques and Research Center - Project Director position in Osteology for overseas summer program

Archaeological Techniques and Research Center is seeking a project director for a human osteology/bioarchaeology summer program. The successful applicant will have to teach daily morning lectures and labs, and conduct research projects on a medieval human remains museum collection. Course load: a 5 week intensive osteology workshop module taught twice consecutively. Salary: $7000-$9000 for a 10 week period (Application Deadline: February 28, 2013)


Position description and requirements:

Project dates: June 2 - August 10, 2013
Location: Odorheiu Secuiesc, Transylvania (Romania)
Collection: already excavated medieval human remains from 14-17th c. stored at the Haaz Rezso Museum
Workload: teach a 5 week research workshop in human osteology twice; the overall schedule is as follows:
- work week: Mon-Fri, 8AM-5PM (approximately)
- work day: 2h of lectures, 2h of lab, 4h of research (approximately)
- lecture content: human skeletal anatomy and morphology (1-1.5 week); biomechanics, sex, age, ancestry, metric and non-metric traits (1-1.5 week); pathology (1-1.5 week); various subjects - conservation problems, analytical aspects, DNA, etc (1-1.5 week)
- lab content: the laboratory time is dedicated to the hands-on application (training) of the lecture material
- class size: 15-20 students
- research: under the supervision of the instructor, the students will proceed to the macro (and some micro) analysis of the human remains in the collection 

Requirements:
- ABD or PhD in Physical Anthropology (Human Osteology - Bone Pathology)
- teaching experience
- capacity to set up lectures, teach and conduct research in all the aspects and format mentioned in the above "Workload"
- capacity to supervise and manage a junior research team
- availability throughout the 10 weeks of the project and a few days before and after the project dates
- US citizenship

- salary: US$7000 (with a bonus up to $2000 depending on class size and results) for the 10 weeks
