History of AAPA Meetings and Executive Committee Members

The following link is to a PDF file that contains the history of AAPA meetings and composition of the Executive Committee. This file was prepared by John Relethford. Data for 1981 and earlier came from Appendix 2 in the Jubilee Issue of the American Journal of Physical Anthropology (Volume 56, Number 4, pp. 533-535), originally compiled by G.E. Erickson. Data from 1982 to the present was compiled by John Relethford from the published proceedings of annual meetings. Please contact John (relethjh at oneonta dot edu) with any corrections.

Note that although we have had annual meetings since 1954, this was not always the case. Prior to 1954, AAPA sometimes met twice a year (in 1930, 1932, 1946, and 1952) and sometimes did not meet at all in a given year (1931, 1933, 1943, 1944, 1947). This explains why in 2005 we celebrated our 75th birthday at our 74th annual meeting in Milwaukee. At present, we will celebrate our 100th birthday at our 99th annual meeting in 2030!

Also note that the actual structure of the Executive Committee has changed over time, such that some positions (e.g., Yearbook Editor) are listed for some years but not others.
